K-7 Memory Card MB/S

I'm thinking about upgrading the memory card for my K-7. At what point does the megabytes per second become irrelevant on the K-7?

Is it at 15, 20, 30 or 45 MB/S?

I don't want to spend more than needed but do want to be able to take the largest burst of pictures possible when the opportunity presents itself.

Thanks for your responses.

Just buy SanDisk Extreme III cards and be done with it (class 6), cards are so cheap these days why bother with sub standard quality/reliability. The printed MB/s on SD Cards are not promises that's for sure.

Unless you do Hi continuous shooting, the advice of twitch is sound.

If you do Hi continuous shooting with long bursts, you want a fast access card to free up the buffer more rapidly.

I agree with the above, except mine are Lexar Platinum IIs.

If you go with a class 10, be sure to spend the money for a high quality card. I foolishly bought at a camera store's "going out of business" sale and took their house brand class 10 card (all they had) at a great price. The clerk assured me they were re-branded Delkin cards. In use, Hi-Continuous shooting at a WWII warbird flyover left me with about a 10% +/- write error and corrupt file rate and some once-in-a-lifetime images lost. By the time I figured this out, the store really was out of business so no refund. I took a hammer to that card in frustration.

Quality pays for itself.

Well it is probably as fast as K-5 is, so a SanDisk Extreme III 30MB/s card is enough since there is no speed advantage going to the PRO card UHS-I 45MB/s. Except maybe for future use.

Just for others info. I also contacted Pentax and they said Pentax Japan hasn't published results on the write speed of the K-7. They said, however, that I will see a benefit from upgrading to a Class 10 card. They also said the 45 Mb/s write speed is overkill on my camera. The card will work on the K-7 but since it doesn't support that much speed it will not allow the buffer to fill more quickly than say a 30 Mb/s card.
