Depends on where you are going. I have been on cruises - some sucked, others I enjoyed. Now, this is very important, if the wife is angry, she can make life miserable for you and vice-versa. Only you can tell what you can get away with. If possible, get what makes both of you happy. Cruise and K-5??

You have to look into the future. Down the road it will be much cheaper to upgrade the K-5.

K-5. Then you'd be able to take nice photos on the cruise that you go on.
I think it would likely be the K5 taking photos of her leaving on the cruise
thanks all for the thoughts!
looking like the k10 with the cruise for now.... but once I get back you never know

It was a very long time ago but my parents went on two Caribbean cruises without me. They came back the better for it, loved going. The Bahamas Christmas cruise we all went on when I was 16 bored me to tears honestly. I'd likely never do another one unless maybe it was to Alaska or Europe maybe.

The K5 can wait. There's always another camera down the road but the long term effects of a good vacation with some one you love that can't be bought. Your wife will probably love that you put her before the new camera and you'll have some time together away from your daily grind besides.

How much "vacation sex" are you going to have on the cruise? That would be the determining factor for me. Without the increased level of great vacation sex my spouse and I usually share on trips, I'd go K-5 in a heartbeat!

stuck on a ship and eat the same buffet over and over again for a week compare to a K-5?
I will take K-5.

trip of my choice vs. K-5? Trip.

-- camera come and go.... memories on a trip last a life time.

Come to think of it, I believe that is why I enjoyed the cruises.

Tropical Cruise - I don't really like tropical, cruise or otherwise.

Alaska cruise - done that with my wife, actually it was on our honeymoon.
6weeks in the West Coast, Grand circle, Vegas, Yosemite, SFO, Seattle, Vancover and then a week long cruise. (Now... that's what I call vacation sex! )

K5 - well I have a K-7 now (weathersealed) so can I go on another Alaska cruise and have more vacation sex? (for me an Alaskan cruise costs about 6 K-5's)

the only other real trip I had wasn't liberal on the whoopie thing, but we did visit an orphanage in Belize and it was one of the most heart warming and sad experiences of my life.... especially finding out that one of the kids who hugged me had HIV.

beautiful people who touched my heart

Skip K-5 and get K-3 instead.
Assuming you already have a camera, go for the cruise. In less than a year something better (perhaps much better) than the K-5 will come along. Not to mention the price of the K-5 will nose dive in the months leading up.

Single == your choice.
Married >> Why did you even ask?

Trust me no camera which you will lose in the divorce anyway is worth it.
