K10D + 12-24 + 50-135 Here!

Today FedEx knocked on my door, and I am now setting up my K10D, D-BG2 grip, DA 12-24 and DA* 50-135. I've done the firmware update, and taken a couple of indoor snaps with the 12-24 using Shake Reduction. Christmas and Easter and Birthday all in one!

I must admit that the DA* 16-50/2.8 is ordered, on backorder. I have had a severe case of LAD for many years (see my sig for proof)

I just took a couple to see if my sensor was square, and it seems to be. I then took another using the 12-24 to see if the warning about flash incompatibility was true. It is. Emphatically.

well the problem with the 16-50 f/2.8 and the built in flash is that the front of the lens creates
a shadow in the center bottom of the photo

So with an external flash this should not be a problem?

In the K10D manual, page 177, compatibility with the built in flash, the DA 12-24 mm F4ED AL is simply marked NO for use of the flash. This image shows not my "fat head", but the lens as a large shadow at the bottom of the photo.

Should be noted that this is a problem with all makes and brands.

Why would you spend upwards of $500 (or more) on great optics, and then use the underpowered non-bounceable built-in flash? If you care about image quality (which someone who buys the DA* lenses surely would), you should really invest in a nice hot-shoe flash.
(yep, I'm a flash snob )

Have you tried using a reflective surface(tin foil or matt silver card) to create a inverted snoot....not very high tech or flattering out and about but still might work.
