New Eneloops

Has anyone tried new 2500 mAH Eneloops yet? Or any electrical whiz around if it's good for AA using Pentax cameras?

This is the question, also I guess amper is a little high for the cameras in the new ones, wanna know how it behaves in camera.

Old white ones specs:
# Model number: HR-3UTGA
# Capacity: 2000 mAh typical, 1900 mAh minimum
# Quantity: 4 AAs in total
# Rechargeable up to 1500 times

New black one specs:
#Model Number: 4HR-3UWX-SECH-BP
# Low Self Discharge (LSD): Holds 75% charge after 36 months
# Capacity: 2500 mAh typical, 2400 mAh minimum
# Low Self Discharge (LSD): Retains 80% charge after 6 months, 75% charge after 12 months
# Rechargeable up to 500 times

One significant difference I see is that the old ones are rated up to 1500 cycles, the new ones only 500. My older types are still going strong after 15 months of average use.

I used both old and new eneloops in the kx. Both are good. The new have more punch per charge, but lives for fewer charges. Good for high amp equipment like cameras and flashes. I did not notice any huge difference in day to day use though.

Where can we buy locally this new batteries? Ritz and Wolf sold the old ones.

The only difference from the old and the new (white package) is the charge cycle and self discharge rate. The old one is 1000 charge cycle compared to new which is 1500. Charge retained old batt is 85% for 1 year the new batt if 75% for 3 years

I don't think any average user will charge them more than 200-250 times, even after that getting fresh batteries will be smart, since we all happy with the old Eneloops, there are two questions:

-Would this new batteries permit taking more photos?
-If 2500mAh is suitable for the cameras without harming the electronics inside. As far as I know higher ampere batteries designed for the toys, they drain quicker but gives to enough power for moving toy cars airplanes etc.

This is from eneloop site:

The voltage makes the difference

One of the main features of eneloop is the higher voltage level. Many applications switch off or show the low battery signal if the voltage is lower than 1,1 Volt. A traditional NiMh battery will lose its voltage constantly and runs under this critical level very soon. eneloop however will keep the voltage level over 1,1 Volt for a long time, and only just before becoming empty will fall under that limit. That's one of the reasons why you can take more photos with eneloop than with a 2700 mAh battery.

I have a set of XX which last longer in my K-m than the white Eneloop. Panasonic has relabeled the XX as Eneloop Pro and will ship worldwide in Aug/Sept I think. The only con is that the XX label is more fragile than the white Eneloop.

The wrap of the white Eneloop is heat shrink and tough, while the XX one is tape on and thinner. Mine already have multi dent/chip and a torn at the bottom soon after I got them. The black paint on the silver wrap also wears off easily.
