Hi, I'm new here. But a big Pentax fan. Anyway, I made the jump from my Canon G5 to the DSLR game. I used the KX for a while but got tired of film. Anyway, just got the K10D and I'm really excited. The weather is pretty bad but I had to take some shots. So I got these. Does anyone have any info on the lens I'm using? I got the body from Henrys with a 1gb card for 1162 CDN after taxes.

But great lenses are hard to find ...

Fa 50mm f1.4 is a great lens. I saw a post by Luxart at DPR displaying a comparison of canon 50/1.4 nikkor 50/1.4 and pentax 50/1.4

MTF are all similar to each other at f1.4 improving to reasonable sharpness after f2.0; though pentax counterpart was not as sharp (depending on the tests, measures, control variables of course)

But I think differently from the results there.

I personally think fa 50 f1.4 is definitely way way sharper than canon 50/1.4 which is the lens i sold through Joele for less than half it costs me. Really sad to have little returns but definitely not sad to let it go.

Pentax 50 f1.4 has great bokeh (prone to purple fringeing with highlights), though plastic but light build. A nice lens with a reasonable pricing

A good cheap 50mm in my opinion would be the Pentax-A 50/1.7

Its still manual focus but has A setting and gives very pleasing results and at a very low price point..

Couldn't find any comments on the 55/2 on Stan's photography forum, but judging by the photos, it looks very nice!

it quite cleary looks very soft for a 50mm prime.. the slightly under exposed colours are nice..

i know one thing there are quite a few bad copies of older lenses in circulation.. my last beautifully made 200mm simga macro lens acquired off ebay turned out to be nothing but an expensive paperweight..

i think there is a sorting procces going on.. folks are keeping the better examples and the poor ones end up back on ebay.. round and round they go..

from the photos i see.. bad copy springs to mind..

my smc pentax-m 1:1.7 asahi from a sharpness persective test.. it has nice colurs as well thow not in the sharpness example..

i think its a good copy..

ps.. the lens isnt wide open in the test shot.. but if any lens turns into a fuzzy blob wide open its not much use in my book..
