There is a part diagram of the K10D here.

According to this post, the part should be around $12.

Reaching Pentax parts might be a problem, since I could not find a phone number.
thanks for info, i did get the diagram a couple days ago, i'd have to assume that the parts can't be that much different for the K20D.

i'm currently waiting for a K5. i may in time send my K20D in to get fixed. i have also noticed something moving inside the body now too, sounds like something large too as opposed to something small rattling around.

Not to play "gotcha" or anything like that, but that is precisely what I meant when I posted to the OP - - -

If someone knocked it off the picnic table there may be a lot more wrong with it than the viewfinder issue.
It would seem to me that to shatter the viewfinder would require quite a jolt.
I think a shattered viewfinder would call for a visit to some repair facility for evaluation - Pentax or independent.

Good Luck and let us know what the outcome is.
Thanks

Are you sure you don't mean the "focusing screen" ?
My understanding was that the OP was referring to the "viewfinder" which is the
small window where you place your eye and where the diopter control is.
Now I am confused.

Yeah I know it's an old thread but...since I recently ordered a viewfinder, I thought a disassembly link was here and I was wrong. Anybody know of some decent instructions on opening up a K-x or do I have to wing it???

Hello. I broke my eye piece glass(Pentax K-1 II) and ordered a new one. Instead of doing some camera demantling of top cover etc. I took a metal saw and made an opening over the glass holder(plastic) and could slide down the new glass from above. Took about 10 minutes.
Regards!

You SAWED into a K-1 II to replace the viewfinder glass?! I’d be afraid of metal bits getting inside the camera, damaging something else important and hurting the value of the camera.

I was actually wondering about this because there is an older Pentax DSLR for sale locally with a broken viewfinder glass but otherwise supposedly working.

Hello! If you send over your email adress to me(bertilarild@gmail.com)I can answer more thorough and also take a photo of the performed operation."There is no metal involved, only just plastic"./Bertil

Broken viewfinder glass.

The operation concerns the outer shield glass, not the inner with its eye correction optics.-With the metal saw I did open a small elongate space on the upper part of the plastic(not metal!) compartment which holds the eye piece glass. In that I could slide down the new glass which had the right dimensions to fit in exactly.Nothing can be seen when the rubber eye piece mussel is on, and the glass is fitting very tight also to preserve the weather sealing.-When needed I can post some photos separetely to interested viewers.
