Flash setting with modes - K100d

I am still getting used to my K100d and will ask some ignorant questions.

I noted today that in modes (I think all other than "Picture Auto" or whatever it is), like aperture priority mode, the built in flash "goes" to "manual" only. I tried to use the 4 way switch to change it to (flash) Auto, but the only choices I had (using the rocker switch again) was Manual or Manual with Red Eye.

When I switch the mode from "Av" to "Auto Picture", I then have the option of selecting "Auto" along with some other flash modes with the rocker switch.

Is this correct? Have I messed with some setting with the Menu?

Thanks.

I beleive it means (I don't have a K100) that in "manual" the flash will fire every time you have it up. It will not automatically pop up when in those "maual" modes, even if the camera thinks it is needed. When in "manual" the flash and camera will still give you an automatic exposure adjustment however.

When in the Auto Picture modes the flash will automagically pop up if the camera deems it necessary. I belive that's the only difference

Yep. That's right.

Av, Tv modes don't assess whether the camera should use flash or not - it leaves it up to you to flip the flash up for the shot. And that's a good thing. You wouldn't want the flash to keep popping up for every low-light shot.

Yeah, I'd be REALLY upset if the built-in flash decided to pop-up on its own....

I'm the photographer, I'm in control
