K20D red focus points moved

Hi guys, I've got the exact same problem as in this old thread (unfortunately I couldn't reply to it anymore).

I bought myself a used K20 and it's red focus points in the viewfinder are moved to the left. Everything else seems to work great. Is there anything I can do about this or do I have to send the camera back as broken?

The red indicators being projected onto the focus screen is separated from the actual AF sensor. You can shift the focus screen and see if they will align.

I tried to shift the focus screen but that doesn't work because it fits just right into its place after closing the hatch that holds it. Is there any howto that shows how to really shift the whole thing? The problem is, the red focus points are not just a little misaligned. The center red dot for example even touches the black circle of the focus screen.

If it's that far off, then there is nothing you can do I am afraid. The camera has to be disassembled for the projector to be realigned.

Hi wlachan. Thank you for your help! Do you have any idea how much a reparation would cost if I send the camera in to Pentax? I'd like to try to make the seller reduce the price about the amount a reparation is gonna cost or otherwise I'll send it back.

I guess it might cost a standard fee like US$120+ if you are in the US. I know you tried to shift the focus screen, but you might try again just in case. Say, if the indicator is toward the left in the viewfinder, you might turn the camera to the right before closing the screen holder. See if it helps.

I tried again but it doesn't help. One can see that it's actually not the focus screen but really the red focus points that seem to be misaligned because the focus screen is centered when I look through the viewfinder and the red points are not. I live in Germany, I'll try to contact Pentax and ask them about the exact price. Thank's again for your help!
