Cheapest place to buy a K-1XXD camera

I'm thinking of getting my dad a dSLR for Christmas and of course I'm going to get him a Pentax if I do Currently I'm shooting a K110D and I want to be able to share lenses with him.

He doesn't need all the bells and whistles and even a K110D would fare. He doesn't need the kit lens as he can use mine, so basically it comes down to where can I find the cheapest Pentax dSLR from the current line-up? Most of the places I look don't even have the K100D anymore, let alone the K110D, but if anyone knows a place that has these and they're a good amount cheaper than the K100D Super I'd definitely be willing to look. I'd prefer it new, but might go for refurbished, not used however.

Thanks everyone!

B & H Photo Has it

I'm pretty sure that Pentax has stopped making the K110D and the original K100D. B & H still has the K100D, with the kit lens.

The K100D has been replaced with the K100D Super. B & H has it for $499 with the kit lens, or $469 for the body only. Both are eligible for a $100 mail-in rebate. For $30, I think I'd get the kit lens, but its up to you. After the rebate, it will only cost $399.

Here is the URL for the results of searching their site for the keywords "pentax k110d super".

pentax k100d super | B&H Photo Video

If you do a web search, you will probably find someone who advertises a much lower price, but often times, these sellers turn out to be high pressure outfits that charge you extra for the accessories that Pentax includes in the box. Many times, they are selling "grey market" cameras that are not eligible for rebates or US warranty service. If you refuse to buy their overpriced memory cards or camera bags, or extended warranties, suddenly, your camera is out of stock.

There are many reputable dealers out there, and some may even undersell B & H by a few dollars. But, I've never heard anyone have anything bad to say about B & H.

Hope this helps.

Beach Camera has the K100D listed at $369 body only, with no note that it's out of stock yet. They've got the K100D Super at $468 body only, same price as B&H. I got my K100D from Beach last Christmas with zero hassle at all.

Abe's has the K100D body for $365, but for $35 more I can get the Super with the kit lens. Amazon has it for $375.

Wait, is that $369 and then you get the rebate or $368 with the rebate?

rebate is only for the k100d super, so keep that in mind.

just my 2 cents....

beach camera-i got my k10d from them by way of amazon. i think the 100d super was cheaper thru amazon directly, by a few bucks.

however, i've used beach a bit, but i've also gone to adorama as i work in NYC, along with going to cameraland ny. camera land's prices for some items do not compare to the bigger places-ie, beach and adorama. B and H for most things I've seen prices on the higher end-compared to adorama and beach anyways.

but, i think there's some advantage to developing a relationship with a local shop. cameraland is 2 blocks away from my office, so its close. i opted not to get the k10d from them simply because the price of their 100d (non super) was more than i paid for the 10d, and i knew they wouldn't price match that....but i've gotten most other supplies from them, and just the other day got my 360 flash and realized a few places had it 50 bucks cheaper. i asked about a price match, initially they offer 10 bucks, the difference between their price and B and H. When I said store credit would be fine, they bumped to 30. I went today to "collect", and actually made out better than that---because he remembered me, my prior purchases, etc.

sometimes price hunting is what you have to do, but i think if you;ve got someplace nearby, the relationship can be invaluable. I know they won't hesitate to help, offer advice and otherwise take care of me, and that's good customer service-hard to find these days

but, otherwise, i think beach is a good bet too. and they ship fast

So there is no reason to NOT buy the K100D Super over the K100D right now is what it basically comes down to?

Man, if this actually happens my dad will have a better camera than me! :P

Give him your k110D

Buydig, Beach, and B & H have the K100D Super for around $370 after rebate. Give your dad the K110D and keep the Super for yourself.

Regards,

Ken
