Heat wave!

So hot here in Ottawa, Ontario. I was at the airport last night to take photos - air temp was 35C, but the sun was low on the horizon. I put my kx on a tripod, turned on LiveView, and after a few seconds the camera stopped working and a large red thermometer was displayed. Interestingly, I couldn't even turn the camera off! I switched the on/off switch to off without effect. I had to open the battery door to shut it down.

Yes, our cameras don't like this heat. I'm a couple hundred miles east of you, near Lake George, and we topped 100F for the first time in recent memory. I didn't use my camera yesterday but mine has issues saving photos when it's hot.

I don't have any issues with the k-7 although I was out only briefly, it was indeed hot out there. Does anyone experience any problem with WR body like k-7 or k-5 in hot weather condition?

I did a time lapse series of 800 pictures, one every 10 sec. the K-x was under the sun and no hit problem. I did not use the LV at all, and that can be the difference.

Yeah, the key word there is the live view... Remember that with LV, you're running a *lot* of electronics, continuously, in a very small enclosed plastic case: if it's already heated up or can't shed that heat, it could cook pretty quickly.

(And, actually, I bet those metal cases on the K-5 and K-7 could really help with that, for the video and all. )

Just looked into my K-5 files, since I spend two sunday's in the sun photographing beachvolleybal staying on the field for hours. One of my K-5's say's 41 degrees Celsius and the other says 40 degrees by the end of the last game. So even when the camera heats up you can still keep working. Didn't do any movie or LiveView use.

My K-x had been in the car all day (hidden from view) so was hot to begin with. When the camera stopped it was in LiveView. However I couldn't get out of LV nor could I shut off the camera. I had to open the battery door to shut it down. I turned it on straight away and just used it withou problem, just not in LV.

No heat problems with my kx, with temperatures between 45C-50C in the shadow (I don't want to know how hot was in the sun ), but i didn't use live view.

I haven't had any issues with down here in the hot and humid coastal south, but then, I don't use LV at all. We took my grandson to the beach for the first time last week and the temp. was over 100 and even though I was worried about the temperature issue, there weren't any problems.
