what I'm worried is the flash's hot shoe breaking off, not the camera's shoe mount.

you are not giving people a favor by giving out ill-advised warning without doing further research.

that certainly is a more common occurrence, it's happened to me twice with Pentax (but also in the past with other brands - generally only with larger heavier flashes not small ones)

There are many K-7 users here (and not) who have a K-7 and never have encountered this problem. I don't believe there is an innate hotshoe problem with the K-7, but as with anything, there are limits to how much beating the gear can take before it breaks.

There is no cause for avoiding the camera over such a concern.
ditto to what Ash said

i regularly use one of my two AF540GZ flashes and have never felt any concern with the hotshoe. If anything, Im more careful with the shoe of the flash.

I've had my K7 for a year and love it. ANYONE THINKING OF BUYING ONE SHOULD. Besides, I hear it's the hardware fix for all the K5 troubles ( Hey, I'm just teasing! I know the K5 is great and wish I had one! Just pumping up us K7 users a bit is all . lol) How your hot shoe broke before the flash is real freaky my friend.
