Yes, we've chewed-over this a bit; see the NEWS AND RUMORS area here. The technology is apparently suitable for phonecams but not really for dSLRs. Falk Lumo explained the physics of why. And in the NON-PENTAX area I recently (yesterday!) posted a link to a Samsumg gimmick for something similar using off-the-shelf warez: 2 cams in 1! With hi-res and low-res systems together, one taking a sharp shot, the other a fuzzy one; and you tell the 'bot which parts of the image should be which. Much more better than the Lytro needing a 40mb sensor to make a 2mb picture, eh?

Multi images merged together and using software to move from one image to the next.

I don't think the Lytro is ready for prime time.

The images look quite erm... terrible.. and I don't know if that's only because this prototype is just so new, or if it's a sacrifice in some way to get the technology into the camera.

I had an idea that builds upon the Samsung gimmick I mentioned above, but I'll put it in the SAMSUNG PATENT thread in the NON-PENTAX forum area. Cya there! And forget this LYTRO thang, it's not coming to dSLRs.
