The X100 / x1 model: Sell a camera.
The dSLR model: Sell a camera. Then sell a bunch of lenses.
The GXR+ model. Sell a camera, and a mountor, and some lenses. Then sell more mountors and lenses.

Fixed-lens cameras box themselves into a corner.
The original GXR lensor model is a little better, but not much.
The dSLR model seems to be working quite well, and is expanding.
The GXR+ model... well, that's in its infancy, but it has potential to be huge.

No, I don't expect a Pentax fixed-lens camera, that's a commercial dead-end. One sale and it's over. The trick for sustainability is to get the buyer hooked and make them come back for more and more and more. The GXR body+mountors+lenses model should do just that. But fixed-lens camera? That's a glorified P&S. No room for expansion. Feh.

There are those new nice camera's like Fuji x100 and Leica X1 that not only make a buzz but also seem to sell. Should Pentax make one of those?
No, what's the point? If Fuji doesn't entice me to buy theirs, why would I buy one from Pentax? If the Q takes lenses, it would be lame to come up with a larger sensor camera that doesn't.

The Fuji doesn't entice you? I'd LOVE to have one...the only problem is the price.

Also, doesn't changing the flange distance change the optical performance of the lens? If so, smaller body may not work well with the 31.
Well offcourse there has to be a new design to make that lens fit in that new camera. Base of it would be the FA31mm gving that same image feel and image quality. Is that strange? No it isn't or does anyone think that this Elmarit is the same as the other?

I like it, but I don't need it, and if I would get it, I wouldn't have much use for it. So - no, it doesn't entice me.

No, problem is the user interface. There is too little joy in using a frustrating camera.

60 years of camera's

Wel look here: Asahiflex - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia they started in 1952, so next year there is a little selebration.

And for wich a selebration camera coult be made:

I still think that a specialty camera with the 31mm lens would be great. (or do we want a full frame DSLR?).

The Pentax GXR obviates the need for a fixed lens APS-C. They essentially have one already. 60s bellbottoms retro aside, I'd much rather have a GXR vs the Fuji.
Ummm...oh, ohhhhh you are serious. OK, well I suppose "different strokes for different folks" keeps enough digicam manufacturers in the market.

I voted "no". Pentax is a relatively small company, so instead of over-diversifying to the point of breaking down, they might want to try to concentrate on smaller number of product lines.

Very true that is a dangerous step. But then again, for a big part it is putting parts together already in the Pentax system. Like sensor, image development system, (part) of lensdesign, most of everything on the body (like screen, buttons, e-dial) and around all this creating a new camera.

I voted for the 31mm and the 15-30mm. Even though I do not think Pentax should make such a camera I think those focal lengths would be the most useful.

With the new Nikon Coolpix A this does bring the question back if Pentax under the new firm with Ricoh should make one? Poll is closed, but ideas can be shared. Canon also has one offering in this segment.

MX-1 would of been a good candidate for this ... but they kind of missed the target slightly ... .

Or if Pentax comes out with a 21mm F3.2/28mm F2.8/24mm F2 XS, suddenly the k-01 is equal to the Nikon.

No the K-01 is a big camera. I looked at the Sony RX1, but thta is also a very large camera compared to this new Nikon Coolpix A offering.
