What zoom lens should Pentax make next?

I was thinking about how Pentax has quite some work on to become more mainstream and that provding a good prosumer grade zoom lens is my opinion of a great start! What do you guys think should be the next lens? My vote is for a 16-85mm F/4 WR with 1:4 magnification ratio! Ahh, that is my wish. What is yours? And please..try to be reasonable.

Well this is a nice thread to promote my lens R&D spendings survey:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/146454-wich-le...r-d-money.html

So please visit it and fill in the poll if you haven't don that yet.

I'm having trouble with the please be reasonable question, since maybe my wish is a little extra-ordanary.

DA*135-270mm/f2.8 would be the great lens to make by Pentax. This is a large and expensive lens, but has many purposes. Also a thread about it: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/146855-pentax-...ive-motor.html. It is for me an excellent lens for sportsphotography. But for some others this would be the perfect wildlife lens. With a 1.4x or a 2.0x or stack both teleconverters you can use it for a large type of purposes.

Then I had this brainfarth this week for a fixed lens camera with aps-c sensor like X1 and x100. Give it some time to wich lens it could have.
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/153418-pentax-shou...mera-poll.html

The 40-80mm/f2.0 as a DA*40-80mm/f2.0 would make an excellent portraitlens. Or is that also out of reasonable?

Aye my apologies..didn't see your thread! I would like Pentax to focus on a zoom lens though rather than more primes for the walk-around travelers and nature buffs. And to create a reliable successor to the SDM. Perhaps a 17-70 F/2.8 WR USM

DA* 8-16mm F/4 - Will, if they can make it F/2.8 even better!

It is true that Pentax is lacking on both ends of the range, Quality ultra-wide-angle options are extremely rare and we are being in terms of coverage for other systems.

Even Four-Thirds has a nice 7-14mm F/4 and Nikon full-frame have a 14-24mm F/2.8 lens which gives the angle-of-view.

On APS-C sensors, the best quality ultra-wide is probably the Tokina 11-16mm F/2.8 which is not available for Pentax and does not give an as wide angle-of-view. A number of variable-aperture lenses exist from third-parties (10-22, 10-24, 8-16, etc) but they all suffer from terrible image quality.

If the cannot make the 8-16mm, they should at LEAST commision the design of the Tokina 11-16mm, since most times designs are shared the other way around!

I just don't uderstand what is the problem with wide angle. DA14 is wide enough for me, DA12-24 is even wider and for all those who think they can handle wider there are the sigma's.
You can also have 180 with the DA10-17.

But people keep asking for lens they would not buy and if they buy it, they don't know how to use it properly.

My Canon friends are envious of my DA14, they would trade Tokinas 11-16 or EF-S10-22 for it instantly.

DA 18-250/3.5-6.3 AL ED [IF], with quick shift, maybe colors. WR would depend on how much it adds to the price.

New users would love it, as it is a pretty good one-lens solution, an improvement on the kit too.

Vacationers would love it for the same reason.

Lens purists would love it, because it would make us feel great not to own it, and carry around eight primes instead.

Ricoh would love it because it would sell great.
