What do you tell people when they ask "What's a Pentax? Never heard of 'em" ?

You could always just dress up nasty, rub some dirt on your face, grab a cup and sit down in Berkeley for a couple of weeks looking down and pathetic. It works for the pseudo homeless street kids. Likely they'd even throw a few free burgers your way if you don't mind vegan...

I haven't gotten people past, "Why are you taking pictures?" Nice camera," and "Cool picture." When the time comes though, hopefully I can think of something witty.

I just give them my card so they can see the photos I take. That should suffice.

I would grin and say "I guess you don't know much about photography, it's one of the oldest brands in SLR history" .

Never stumbled upon such a silly situation though.

I managed to get a colleague who wanted to buy a DSLR to get Pentax instead of Canikon.

I loan her the K20D I was using as I was busy with another class and she used it to take phots in the school hall. She was sold! I also had the DA* 16-50 a my "kit" lens . . . hehe

When she went to the shop to get one, she asked the lady boss for a K20D and a 50D. She was fiddling with the K20D more than the 50D.

When I called the shop to talk to the boss, she asked me, " What did you do to her? She asked for the 50D and the K20D but she hardly played with the 50D?" I just replied that I placed the K20D in her hands . . .

She bought the K20D with the 50mm F2.8 Macro and the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8

My style would be to place the camera into the inquirers hands for them to feel the camera. Let them shoot and then let them see a close up of the photo they took in camera.

Always works.

I don't go in discussion with fanboys of other brands. I do discuss about pictures taken with other brands.

I usually say that it's kind of a "boutique" brand, not found in run-of-the-mill stores, and usually only available by special order -- which is essentially true, with just a little "spin". . .

I usually have my netbook with me, so I'll offer to show them some of my work if they seem interested enough, and I have a folder with some of my best shots in it, so they always seem to be impressed.
