What do you tell people when they ask "What's a Pentax? Never heard of 'em" ?

Being a new Pentax user I would like to hear from you experienced Pentaxians of what to tell a Canikon who probably hasn't done his research about cameras and just bought into the hype of name or been sold a Canikon by the salesperson. What do you tell or what would you like to tell ?

Would you tell the history of Pentax ? Would you tell the pros of Pentax over Canikon ? Something along those lines.

They were a leader in film days, but have had no USA marketing for digital. It has built-in stabilization, excellent and expensive prime lenses, good zooms, of which some are weather-resistant, and can shoot DNG in the camera.

That is not what I would say though. I just shrug and smile.

Oh, and can use cheap old lenses.

Oh, probably something about how I smuggled it out of a secret lab in Turkestan during the revolution there last year. The engineers didn't want it falling into the hands of Al Qaeda so they hid it in a package of freeze-dried bacon. I can't say any more than that -- classified.

I blurted out the perfect answer a while back when someone impressed with my professional approach to a shot asked: "Is that a Canon or a Nikon?"
"Those are camera people buy because they fall for TV ads. Those who know a lot about photography buy Pentax," I said as I showed him the name.
Not true, of course, but they guy said "Oh," with his eyes studying my camera.

Yeah, well, the "imaging" business that is DSLRs along with the Brand Name. Hoya retains Medical Optics and the Pentax Company itself.

"Pentax? They make medium format cameras that sell for 10 grand or so. This is their smaller model, it doesn't cost quite that much but it's still fairly good. I'm saving for the expensive one."
