Full Frame Digital Pentax?

I'm a Pentax Medium Format shooter who is looking for a Pentax digital body that is full frame (24 X 36mm). I don't recall there being such a camera yet. Is this correct? Anyone know of any plans for Pentax to create one?

It all depends on whether or not Ricoh will invest into the brand and this market. At least Pentax digged out the K-1 recently and showed that there really exists a gap between the K5 and the 645D.

More like fog and smoke, fueled by wet-dreams and hot imaginations. At this point, those who know aren't talking, and those talking don't know. Various possibilities are mooted: FF dSLR; FF MILC; FF module for GXR; a tie-in to a 645D2 with a REAL 645 sensor. I *suspect* that whatever is announced will be spectacular, eyeball-grabbing. We must wait and see.

Whatever *might* be announced, is how I look at it. Maybe they'll do something, maybe they won't. Wait and see, indeed.

I think those MZ-d & K-1 proto-types would hurt more if they hit someone in the head than mist and vapor do!

If you are shooting Pentax MF then your lenses would not work* with a Pentax FF. So, why not go to either Nikon or Canon?

Pentax has stated over and over that they have no plans to introduce a FF Pentax.

On the other hand, Nikon is expected to anounce the D700 replacement near the end of this month.

*Sure they work with an adaptor, but you lose autofocus, and aperture control.

Nikon też twierdził, że nie ma potrzeby FF i DX każdemu wystarczy. A potem wprowadził D3.
Gdyby teraz Pentax twierdził, że wprowadzi FF, kto kupiłby K-5?

Seriously... That's the most contradictive thing I've read today.

And if people bought the FF camera before the k-5, so what?

- Pentax has still a K-mount APSC mirrorless in work according to rumors.
- Pentax needs to release a replacement to the K-r and K-5 that are at mid-life.
- The rumored new FF Sony would be around 36Mpx, so from a Marketing perspective the 645D should be upgraded to at least 60Mpx before or at the same time they would release a FF.
- Pentax would need to release at least 3 lenses for the launch:
24mm ish wide lens,
24-70mm/f2.8
70-200m/f2.8
while they are developping the lens lineups for Q-mount cameras and 645D.

IMO, even if Ricoh has ambitious plan for Pentax and access to the latest Sony sensor, this would happen before late 2012/ early 2013 at best.

Pentax repeated that they have no plan for FF, but said as well that they are not excluding it in the long term.

If I was really in need of a FF, I wouldn't hold it for Pentax. If you know exactly what you need, 2-3 very good lenses (with good resale value) would contempt it, and when time is to switch back to Pentax, the good resale value of the lenses should make it not too painful.

I'm not a fanboy, Pentax camera have their quirks, but I know why I'm using Pentax (FA limited on film and digital) If my needs were to change, well I wouldn't mind going to Nikon, Canon or Sony.

"Currently", I believe, was the word used. They said they would launch a FF camera only they would make a profit, i.e. no loss leader, no bargain prices. It's uncertain if this will happen or not, and certainly Ricoh won't make it possible over night.

fikkser, I think Michu was talking about announcing they would launch FF camera way before it's availability (a kind of Osborne Computer tactic).

What gets me is there are SO many people who want a full frame Pentax, and instead we get the Q. They should have called it the Fah-Q T_T
