A35-105/3.5 Vs. FA28-105/4-5.6 PZ

Hello. Does anyone have a preference between the A 35-105/3.5 and the FA 28-105/4-5.6 (PZ) used with a digital camera (DS2)? Is the image quality so close between the two that the convenience of the auto focus of the FA 28-105 is the deciding factor? Thank you.

Hi Tim

I just got the A 35-105 F3.5. I haven't used it much yet but I went with it rather than the FA 28-105 because of 3 things:
1 Constant aperture of the A
2 Macro function of the A
3 Lots of people here who have it really like it (check out the reviews in the lens review section)

I've got the A 35-105 f3.5, too. I've owned it since before I owned an autofocus camera or a digital SLR, so it's not like I chose it over the FA 28-105. I've been very pleased with the results I've gotten with it, both on film and in the digital world. If anything, I like it even better now that I've got a DSLR. It seems to suit my eye a little better now. It's a tad heavy compared to modern zooms, but I like the way it feels on my K10D.

I also have had an A 35-105 macro zoom. In my case I've had it for about 25 years. It is a top notch lens whether it's on my K10D or K1000.

I have the FA 28-105/4-5.6 (PZ) - an ex-display model bought late on in the active life of my MZ5N. Solid, if not spectacular performer, reasonable close focus ability, well built. Main drawback for digital is quite bad CAs. I still want a DA* equivalent though!
