K100DS is the only Pentax DSLR with a "10" Average User Rating in the review section. Only four reviewers, still it must be one heck of a camera!

I have upgraded twice from the *istD I first bought, and now have a K7, K10 as well as the *istD. ALthough the K7 gets the share of the workload, I still use the *istD quite often.

Yes, it is slow, has a small screen, and is only 6MP but that does not detract from the fact that the 6MP cameras (all of them) still had some good qualities.

unless you really are into printing 13 x 19 prints or cropping in all the time, the 6MP cameras are all still viable

I hope the 6mp cameras are still viable, coz that's all I own at the moment! I'm very happy with the output of both my istD and my K100D. Each camera has points in its favor - the istD has a big, clear viewfinder and accurate green button metering that makes it a joy to use with manual lenses. I also like the dual control wheels and TTL flash capability. The K100D has a bit faster AF, great ergonomics, accurate metering, a pretty good viewfinder, and SR. Eventually I will upgrade, but for now, at my level of (in)expertise, they suit me just fine.

The K100D makes beautiful images. I love the combo of my Helios 44-2 and the K100D's CCD sensor. Double pixie dust. The K-7's viewfinder makes it much easier to get the shots however.

Nothing wrong with a k100d super. I prefer it to the more modern ones.

I find the k100d Super better to hold than the K-X or the k-r.

It's classed as a mid range camera but I don't think pentax, make mid range cameras anymore.

So if it's cheap, get yourself a k100d super.

I've been using my K100D pretty much RAW only for four years too, it's still excellent! And 'viability' just got a huge boost from lightroom 3 which seems to have extra noise reduction fairy dust... suddenly noisy pics are cleaned up beautifully. All along the way i've been tempted to upgrade by this or that, but at the end of the day the K100D is still fine!

Regrettably I can't compare my k100dS to any newer since that is my only dslr. What I can tell you is that I printed a snapshot at 11X14 and it looked great - at least to me - jpeg printed straight at Walgreen's without any post processing. I had used a da40 limited lens. Similar to the experiences reported by many better glass seems to help as my photos seemed to be generally sharper and better as I progressed from da 18-55 II, to da 17-70, to da 40 limited.
Funny you mention this. I just had an 11x14 printed out from a shot I took with my K100DS at Walgreens, and it came out great, even with a crop.

I traded my k100ds for a k-x. While I like the higher resolution, my favorite shots are still from the k100d.

I just went through my K100D photos and they are also some of my favorites.
