Pretty sure you hold the Menu button while powering on the camera.

Firmware

Yep, hold the menu button while powering on. The camera will display the firmware version number for a few seconds before doing its normal power-on stuff.

AFAIK, Pentax has never updated the firmware installed in production cameras, so, if you haven't updated it, chances are it is still version 1.0.

The latest version is 1.30. If a new version comes out, you will probably read someone posting that fact here. Or, you can periodically go to Pentax Imaging - Home and follow the links for self-support.

Downloading and installing the firmware is very easy. There is an instruction sheet on the same webpage as the firmware download. Just follow those instructions and you shouldn't have any trouble.

BTW, the versions are cumulative. That is, just d/l version 1.30 and install it. You don't need to install 1.10, or 1.20.

Hope this helps.

I have a K100D Super with version 1.0. Is it beneficial to upgrade the firmware.

to put it succinctly, Yes. There are bug fixes and enhancements in there. If you go to the pentax web site, you should be able to see what they did in the firmware upgrade.

I do not believe there is a firmware update for the super.

Thanks everyone. I visited the Pentax site and it mentioned the K100D, but not the Super.
So will hold off.

and did they send you the same body back ?

I don't know for your country but in Holland it's common practice to just replace it with a new one (could explain the lower firmware) or sometimes they even give you a repaired one from someone else !

I don't know about camera's but I've seen on TV that it happens a lot with other media devices (some people even scratch it on a "secret" place to see if they get the same hardware back.

Did that with a motherboard I RMA'd. Didn't complain when I got back a different one as it was a newer and better revision.

Or you could just check the serial number.

you could try that aswell.

I just know someone who had faulty radios (2-way) and he made a scratch in the battery compartment to make sure he got 2 new ones and not the same (bad) ones.
