What's a Pentax FF cam worth to you?

Just a quick poll to gauge consumer price sensitivity with respect to a Pentax Full Frame camera. I do know this is just speculation but I just wanted to get an idea of the sort of pricing people would pay. So imagine a ruggedised weatherproof Canon 5D II with the K-5 FF sensor.

UPDATE. Perhaps I should have been clearer. This is just for folks who DO want one and would definitely buy one. Not for people who don't. Also it really isn't realistic to expect one below $1000. Heck as far as I know and we've been informed a billion times it isn't even realistic to expect one. But hey it doesn't hurt to hope.

Can we have a 'less than $1000' option?

it depends a little on what happens with canikon and sony pricing when the new models drop. in general i would expect between 2-3000 based on your options , but on the high end close to 3000. depending on the market i would expect to pay as high as 3500 (like i said it's dependent on the competition to a large degree if canikon all of a sudden have models at 2300 then Pentax will have to be there or a little lower, or much higher featured - which i don't see really without massive af and flash improvement)

I actually don't want a FF camera at all. Would be sad to see my precious 50-135mm devaluated to a light tele. I do not need the added bulk, storage requirements and I do not want to bid farewell to my DA lenses. On the wide side, the 8mm of the Sigma 8-16 UWA is wide enough on a 1.5 crop sensor - seeing it go even wider is not something I'd relish. Not to think of the added negative effects of not being able to use SMC lenses' sweet spot anymore.

Nope, no FF for me at any price! I'd probably change brand rather than go FF. (Not worried at all yet...)

The question is 'What is it *worth to you*? not "How much do you expect it to be?"

I'm happy with APS-C. A full frame would mean the big lens I can't afford for my bird pictures would be even more expensive. Given that the quality of APS-C is good enough for me, and that FF would make lenses more expensive for me, I'd actually pay less for FF than I would for APS-C - it doesn't suit my needs, and I don't feel the need for more quality.

(I don't get the car thing either. I used to, but I don't now. If it's comfortable, affordable, reliable and has room for my family I largely don't care. As long as it's not utterly horrible to drive. And I see German cars (normally Audi's but sometimes BMW's) broken down almost every week. I can't remember last time I saw an Asian car broken down)

if they do make one, I'd would pay 2k-3k realistically. but dreaming 1k-2k wouldn't that be the cheapest brand new FF ever =D

as a student, i would say the lowest the best , but in reality i could probably won't be able to buy it unless two or tree years ...

Even a "cheap" FF like a K5 FF would be sooo great for me

It would depend on how it's made. If they duplicated Canikon DSLR features with all auto, video, etc - no thanks. But I paid $7K for an all manual Leica M9 because I could use it identically to how I use my film Leicas, and it works just the same with all my old Leica lenses (1941 to 1971) - with FF. I have a lot more Pentax M lenses than old Leica ones, so if they did a "digital LX" I'd be on it!

You need a "I am not interested in a FF at any price" as one of your options.

I'm starting to shoot portraits more often and really want more control over depth of field, especially with my small home studio where I don't have much room. So yes, I would love to see a full-frame Pentax, but would not pay more then $2500 (even though I chose the $2k-$3k range in the poll). If you take the competition into consideration (D700 or 5D MKII), $2500 seems to be the going price, but Pentax doesn't necessarily sell their cameras cheaper than Canikon (as we've seen with the K-5).

Couldn't you use a camera with some modern features that made it appeal to a wider audience in the same way as you use your film camera?

I don't think I use my K-7 much differently from my Prakticas, except that exposure compensation is much easier. And I use P as well as Av. Still, I could use them in pretty much the same way.

Of course, and actual LX is already full frame, and is exactly the same to use as an LX. So why would Pentax want to make another?

For the $7000+ voter, get tempted now with the 645D.
Practically speaking, it's got to be both economically and ergonomically competitive - the 5DMkII and D700 are already very good cameras with decent price tags that Pentax will have to challenge.
