Yeah, agree that the glass pentaprism is probably a big factor. It might have a thicker gauge metal for the frame and of course (most of) the exterior is magnesium alloy instead of plastic.

The SR mechanism and AF are more advanced, so they might require more components and materials to do it. The circuit board and such probably has more RAM and other components compared to the K-r. Other stuff like the motor that drives the mirror flopping probably has to be bigger to handle the higher FPS.

It all adds up.

I get the k5 vs. Kr differences...but why does the k5 weigh less than the K7!?

What is it 40 grams? They practically weigh the same.

In all seriousness, I believe that the extra weight is a direct result of all the unicorn tears that went into the production of the K5.

That's only cause all the faerie blood was taken for the 645D project.

NO, those tears are anti gravitational to start with. Part of the "floating sensor".
