next objective: Resolution

Shall the new Sony 24 MP APS-C sensors produce resolutions comparable to FF (say 65 lp/mm)?

See the current Sony thread in the 'Pentax News and Rumours' section here, as well as related threads in that section of the forum. There is already an extensive discussion going full-steam there on all these resolution, FF, Sony etc issues.

Interesting thread. Thanks for the tip. Though not much talk about resolution there. As I get more into photography I tend to believe that modern 16MP sensors have a real resolution of 5MP and the rest is just interpolation, so there is some room for improvement there...

Sorry, those threads can be long and hard to follow.

I was referring to this discussion in particular on resolution from about p-15 of the Sony A77 thread, where Falconeye even got out his microscope to bolster the discussion in that thread about DSLR resolution and the Sony sensor etc:

Sensor size matters. You picture on APS-C would never be so tight as on FF.

Ya want resolution? Get a 6x9cm folding cam and some fine-grain film. Shoot; scan at high-res. You'll get the equivalent of maybe 60-90 megapickles. Leave those paltry dSLRs in the dust, eh?

How about moon dust? Folks did use a hassy during the early years.
Hubble used just 2.5 megapickle CCD array(s) for many years.

Theres interesting short article in link titled "Resolution 101"
Example uses full moon seen from earth, decribed in degrees,arc-minutes and seconds.
Abstraction can be made that relates well to field of view of a lens and surface area
of sensor/film plane

Your beliefs need to be reassessed.

rawr, amazing presentation there by falconeye, thanks.

alohadave please look at the above discussed post. Do you know accutance? No such thing in film. Though in digital it's most interpolation.
