Is this kind of unusually high noise expected for K-x at ISO 400 ?

Seems awfully high to me ? Have the in camera JPEG high ISO noise reduction on strong to begin at ISO 400.

ISO 400 1/1600s f/5.6

I believe you're seeing an excessive amount of noise because the image is quite underexposed.

Did you shoot this and try to bring up the exposure in post? It looks excessive compared to my shots.

No. You are doing something wrong. ISO 400 on the K-x is clean as a whistle.
For JPG, I have High-ISO NR set to Low, and have the start level set to ISO 3200.

Post a full (resized!) image with EXIF to help folks see what is going on.

That's a full 100% crop from the image, if you click on the image and go through to imgur

It's a severely underexposed image that's been dragged up a lot by software somewhere in the chain between capture in camera and viewing it by us on screen.

K-x ISO400 in a properly exposed image has nothing like the degree of noise in that image.

Nope. I see a 2,404 x 902 pixels image with no EXIF.

Resize the original in something like Irfanview or Fastone to 800px wide, tell the app to keep the EXIF intact, upload to your album here or post as an attachment.

Or just copy the EXIF out of the original and post it.

ISO 400
1/1600s
f/5.6

What time was this taken?
1/1600s seems awful fast for an evening shot.

Uploaded to album. It resized, but hopefully EXIF is intact

Can you just attach it to this forum? It should keep the exif - I don't know how to get the exif from imgur

This is ISO 1600 using the KX:

You definitely have something askew there...

That's why I'm concerned. I have seen similar results on some of the other shots too, especially inside the room in the day when I see a lot of people getting better shots.

Are you shooting raw? Or straight to JPEG?
