Problem with catch in focus

just bought a 50mm f1.7 M for my pentax k-x...how do i enable the feature CIF?

steps that i've made:

1. Enabled catch in focus in the menu
2. Chose AF rather than MF beside the lens(left side)
3. when i put my 50mm i chose 50mm as my focal length
4. Picked Av Priority

the problem that i encountered is that i can't adjust MF to AF-S or AF-A in the Info Button (MF is not highlighted). Thanks!

try the following:
keep the switch on AF
make sure that catch in focus is selected
press the shutter FULLY down and keep ur finger on it (ie. dont let go of the shutter, just keep pressing it)
make sure that the center AF point is on something that has a texture or different colors on it (when using a manual lens the camera only uses the center AF point)
turn the focus ring SLOWLY and hopefully it should fire

Besides the rest, you need to select AF-S. Do you have A-RING PERMITTED?

Here's how I use CIF on my K20D:

* Make sure the lens has an unpainted base, or the paint scraped off, or a bit of metal tape stuck on, to safely short the contact pins (opposite the lens' red.dot)
* I've already set A-RING PERMITTED and CIF-ENABLED in the menus
* The AF-S AF-C MF switch is set to AF-S
* Aim, frame a shot, and hold down the shutter
* Twist the focus ring or wait for a subject to come into center focus

As soon as I get Focus Confirmation, the shutter snaps.

i heard if you're using 50mm f1.7 Manual(metal mount) there's no need to short the contacts.

i already did

* The AF-S AF-C MF switch is set to AF-S
this is my problem, i can't change it to AF-S.... when i click info, the MF button is not highlighted(hence i can't change it to AF-S, AF-A or AF-c

yep, it did fire =) while holding the shutter + subject is in focus =)

I don't know about the K-x, but on my K200D, I seem to only be able to get it to work in M mode, as opposed to Av.

Try going with "menu" #2 in the first tab, "AF Mode", and change it to "AF.S", or put your kit lens on, change it under info, and then put the 50mm on, that should work.

In av mode the lens will be wide open the entire time. For m lenses the manual mode is the only way to get he aperture to stop down.

On a K-x, focus mode is default to AFA(for Auto), you have to change the setting in the AF mode to AFS to get CiF to work, you should be able to press info button, move the highlight to AF mode and use the control wheel to change AF mode, or highlight AF mode and press OK again, the focus mode selection screen should come up.
