Checksum

First time updating firmware and a bit apprehensive. Have looked through the posts and comments and note there are recommendations to use checksum to ensure the download is uncorrupted.
How does one do that please?

well if you are using Linux you are in luck

The Linux OS comes with a build-in checksum tool. Just do "checksum nameoffile" and wait for it to show some output.

for windows you will need to download a 3rd party tool.

Microsoft offers a tool here you just download and install it (it doesn't auto-install, it just extracts a file called fciv.exe onto the location you sellect).

to run it you'll need to open a DOS-box (run -> execute command -> cmd) and then use the following syntax :

fciv c:\fciv.exe (you substiture c:\fciv.exe with the file you want to check offcourse)

and the output should be something like this :
Code:
//
// File Checksum Integrity Verifier version 2.05.
//
e2c6d562bd35352b73c00a744e9c07c6 c:\fciv.exe
the e2c6d562bd35352b73c00a744e9c07c6 is the checksum you'll need to compair with the provided checksum (mostly included on the site where you download the file from).

Offcourse if the commandline scares you there are many tools that work from within windows (like FastSum but this is a commercial program thaty you'll need to pay for).

Good Luck.
