Before you "strip off the flash" I would like to let you know you can pick up a decent flash for around $100.00. I have this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Sakar-952AFPEN-952AF-Power-Flash/dp/B001254HHE/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1319320703&sr=1-7
(Actually, mine is a Digital Concepts 952AFPEN, which I'm certain is the same product rebranded).

which is pretty much identical to the Vivitar 383.

I also have the Metz 58 AF2 and I use them about the same. The Metz is around $400.00 and very nice, but the Vivitar (or similar third party) does a great job, has pretty much the same features, and I don't worry about it as much as I do the Metz.

I have a k7 and k-x and am very happy with all my gear.

like others said, don't limit your photography with one lens because of dust.

Bill

I also have a Metz 58-AF2 along with my Vivitar 2800 and both have their different uses for sure. For older glass and shooting opera I would be looking at lenses like a 50 f1.4 if your close enough, or a 135 f2.5 for longer ranges, Both can be found for decent prices, sometimes well under $100 for the 50 f1.4 if your patient and keep your eyes peeled. Anything bigger than the 135 f2.5 and things start getting big unless your getting something newer (as far as I know at least).
