K10D shoppers... Who has found the best deal recently (12/12/07)

I realize this is my first post, so here it goes: My name is Matt, this board has been a wealth of information, and I'm not at all concerned about making the wrong decision on going with a k10d.

I've been lurking for some time now, and I wanted to bring out any more lurkers or potential k10d
shoppers.

I though for the last few people who are searching for a K10D before the rebate expires we could share the best deals we've found.

Here's the best I've found so far:

Circuit City k10d w/ 18-55 kit lens: $711.95
Get the 10% off coupon for Circuit City from ebay or AAA.com if you are a AAA member.
=640.XX+ tax BEFORE REBATE
So approximately $585 all said and done.

I'm holding off a couple more days to see if I can save a few more bucks, but I think that's as good as it gets.

Please let me know if you guys have seen a better deal recently.

Thanks and Happy Holidays,
Matt

They didn't allow the AAA discount when I ordered mine from them last month, since it was "already on sale" ($250 off their normal $999). Still, not bad for $650 after rebate (which was approved today...woot!).

-edit; BTW, this is my second post; Hi!

That is good to know if CC isn't taking that AAA coupon. That would be a bummer. What about bodies only? I missed a good deal a couple of weeks ago for shop.com or a similar site. I have a few Pentax lenses still (nice and aged), so the kit lens isn't that important, although it seems hard to beat for the $60 or $70 people are letting it go for.

DuckD: Good to see another 'new guy' here. Did you order online with the coupon code? There doesn't seem to be any written exclusions to that effect. Thanks, Matt

I tried; I entered the code AAA emailed me, but it didn't show up at checkout. So I tried an experiment; I deleted the K10D from my shopping cart and then added a Nikon DSLR that wasn't on sale. Then the code "took." Deleted the Nikon and re-added the Pentax...still no joy. So I read "the fine print" on the discount: "Not combinable with select Circuit City Offers." I believe that is their out. They were already showing a "sale price," so I could not "combine" that discount.

Oh well. So I paid $75 more than I had anticipated. Still worth it. Looks like they've dropped the price even further...down to $711 compared to the $750 I paid. Plus the $100 rebate from Pentax. I had originally been hot for the K100D Super kit, but Circuit City was perpetually out of stock on it (now I see they've dropped it from their site entirely), and I HAD to buy from CC, as I had $400 worth of frequent-flyer gift cards with them. So, the K10D it was.

(OT: That's weird; Firefox's spell-checker flags "Pentax" but not "Nikon" or "Canon." Bogus. Hmmm. Flags "Leica," too. I guess we're in good company. )

I've been doing my homework--buydig seems to be the best right now. Cheaper than ebay, even.

Guys (and Gals),

Please be sure to check the rating of the store you buy from to make sure you won't get scammed. The best prices on photo equipment always seem to come from shady dealers. You can check them out here:

Ratings and Reviews for 13,693 Stores at ResellerRatings.com: Search: Showing All Stores

Also, since the new Pentax models are being announced in January, I suspect the price of the K10D will drop considerably once the rebate expires at the end of January and the new models begin to ship (although they may not ship until some weeks after that). At this point the K10D will likely be discontinued and stores will be trying to get rid of their inventory.

Just something to think about.

IMO it's going to go the other way. My guess is the K10D will stay in production for another year and the rebate will be discontinued on it at the end of January. I also think the k100D Super will stay in production for another year but the rebate will continue. The pricing after rebates in the spring will be something like this for bodies only:

K100D super $350

K200D $500

K10D $650

K20D $1.200

Regards,

Ken

circuit city won't allow the AAA Rebate since its already being discounted by what they claim as their normal market price of 900 dollars (atleast was the case when I try to buy it)

The AAA 10 percent is only applied to normal priced items. 650 after rebate is not bad when I got it back in October. I imagine there are only slightly better deals now.

Prices will definately drop once the new models are announced especially used bodies, which is probably the way I'll be going.

That always happens, just look at what happened to the k100d when the super was anounced

Beach Camera has "readjusted" their price to $629.00 before rebate for the body only. Still a very good deal from a reputable reseller with free shipping. Too bad they're currenly out of the Tamron 18-250 that I want to get along with the body. I may have to get the lens from BH photo video. Also a top-rated reseller. Check both out at resellerratings.com

The super was designed to replace the K100D. I bought a A K100D for $390 over 6 months ago and today it is at the same price. It's replacement, the k100D Super is at $367. My point being the bottom end model might get down to $350 in the next year but not much lower. Used units are holding around the $275-$300 level, even the ds models.
