K100D and old lenses

Just bought a new K100D. We have 2 old lenses from our circa 1980 Pentax SLR. Both the lenses mount onto the camera, but the camera will not operate with them. Is there any hope for a work-around? We tried to use all manual settings, but it still refuses to take a picture.

If the lens doesn't have the A setting on the aperature ring then you just need to enable the camera to shoot without it. Check the user manual.

See page 107 of your manual about enabling shutter release when the aperture ring is on something other than "auto".

Go to Menu, Custom, Enable Aperture Ring and then everything should work fine. This is a common issue with new users. I don't know why it's not the default. I enabled mine, and have never reset it.

Have fun with those old lenses!

Thanks..I did this; it worked for the wide angle but not the telephoto. I thought maybe I was missing a step. I guess it's possible this lens won't work.

What are the exact lens you are using? Should say around the front of the lens or on the barrel. The K10D should work with even the oldest lens such as the screwmount (via the adapter).

Do you have the MF/AF switch set on "AF"? If so, try moving it to "MF" and see if you can take a picture with the telephoto lens.

lenses without A setting on f ring, will work properly only if:
1: operation of apperture ring is allowed (as you did via custom menu)
2: camera is in M mode
3: AF/MF switch on body is on MF (if you have non AF lens)
4: your lens is not faulty

I can't think of any other conditions,
best of luck

AF/MF was the step I missed. Thanks, this saves a few bucks.

I`m still having issues woth the diaphragm in Av mode which is supposed to work
- Menu C set to use aperture ring
- Lens in MF
- No matter how I set it (f/2 or 22) exposure is the same

Lens is Pentax-M 50/2 and it works fine in the Mg and ME super I have

PS. I found it!
Menu C -> AE-L Button in M mode -> set to Av

I'm glad to see the suggestions people wrote to you solved the problem.

Pentax advertises that their DSLRs work with every lens they ever made. My wife and I have several K1000 Lenses we used after finding the right options. From what I have read on this forum, I think that with the proper settings and occasionally an adapter any Pentax lens can be used.

Compare that with the "low cost" Nikon D40 which only works with their newer motorized lenses.

Isn't it great how you can attach 20 odd years old lens and it'll still work, I love these cameras...
best of luck with your combo...

Hello!

My father has an analog camera Olympus OM-10 with 2 lenses: olympus zuiko 50mm f:1,8 and vivitar 70-210 f:4.
Are these usable on my k100d super with some kind of lens mount adapter?

You have to convert the lens mount from OM to PK. Here is the instruction Manual Focus Forum / Lens mount conversion: Olympus OM -> P/K
Good luck.
