Good deals on pentax DSLRs?

Hi all,

I currently only have a point and shoot and I'm definitely looking to get a dslr. My friend has a Pentax and it's great, so I'm thinking about getting the same one as her. I've been using Groupon a lot and it's great, but they don't have deals on photo stuff. Are there any daily deal sites for photographers, like Daily Deals for Photographers - PhotoWhoa but for cameras and lenses? I might just end up paying retail price for my camera, but I thought I'd check to make sure before I bought one off Amazon

Thanks so much, every bit saved helps!

Marketplace...

Check the marketplace on this forum. Best deals around if you're considering "pre-owned" equipment....

I would really suggest you look at picking up some second hand gear especially since your starting out. You will save a bundle. And from my experience most photographers are reasonably meticulous about looking after their camera and lenses. What this means is you could easily pickup a camera with 5000-10,000 clicks (still has 90% of its sensor life left) and save a couple hundred off retail.

Then if you find a DSLR suits you you can invest more into it or you can sell it on again in the marketplace. Unfortunatly for me I wasn't aware of this forum at the time of my first purchase (at full retail) and I did the math: Camera, Lenses, Tripod, filters bag etc I could have saved nearly $600 on a $2000 RRP kit. With that money you could buy a whole heap more stuff!

The only thing that you have to deal with is not getting that brand new smell when it arrives.

Which model does your friend have? Even if buying used, I probably wouldn't get anything older than a K-x at this point. The K200D is also excellent for a beginner, but it's not so great in low light situations compared to newer models.

I've never had a great experience buying used. Amazon is really your best bet.

When I am pricing lenses and dslrs out I check Amazon, Adorama, B&H, and Prodigital2000. They are a very reputable ebay store. They don't always have the best prices but they are always worth a look. I bought my K200d for $400 3 years ago from them, brand new, when they were still selling for $600+ elsewhere.
