pentax kx- lock focus and re-compose

hi all,

I want to half press and AF on something and recompose while still half press and lock the focus, I can't seem to make it work on pentax k-x by checking all the menu.

I half press, but it will automatically focus hunting if i recompose...

does it able to do what i want?

Do you have AF set to AF.c (continuous AF) or AF.s (single AF) ?

I think AF.c is called differently on the K-x, not sure though.

Set your AF on AF-S. If you are on AF-C it will hunt as you recompose.

This is one of the problems back button focusing solves; you can use AF-C but still recompose, and you can recompose take a shot, lift your shutter finger and then take another shot(s) without affecting focus, or having to focus/recompose again. You can use back button focusing on the K-x but you lose AE-L. Luckily on the K-5 you don't give anything up as they are separate buttons.

(on K-x and K-r) press "Info" / go on the case with either "AFs" or "AFc" or "AFa"

Can exposure also be locked by holding the shutter button half way?

Seconding the suggestion to change from half-depressed shutter focus to an AF button approach. I like to keep my camera on 'continuous' focus to capture my moving target kids, and by using the AF button, I'm not limited by waiting for the shutter to do double duty on a moving target. And focus --> recompose is a snap
