Vivitar 28-70mm f3.4-4.8 Zoom lens

I am new to using DSLR and have recently bought on impulse a Vivitar 28-70mm f3.4-4.8 Zoom lens on ebay, I have tried to use it but I am getting a flashing F---- in the monitor and cannot take any photos. Any tips on how to get this working or have I bought a lens that won't work. I am using Pentax K-x and Ias I have already mentioned I am new to DSLR photography.

Any tips or advise would be much appreciated

Dennis

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-beginners-corner-q/110658-using-ma...x-dslrs-f.html covers the basics. In short: Go into your [Custom] menu and set USING APERTURE RING to PERMITTED. If the lens has an A position on its aperture ring, set it there, and you can now control the aperture from the camera. If it has no A position, using the lens may be a little more complicated. Read the above about using Manual mode and the Green button for stop-down metering and exposure. Hope this helps!
