I think the K mount is safe for now. Very different situation than the Oly 4/3 stuff

You are probably right. Four Thirds started at a disadvantage, because of the slightly smaller sensor size, and then compounded that with less-than-state-of-the-art sensors. Also, other than their entry-level cameras, they did not take advantage of the smaller sensor to produce smaller cameras.

I had an E-1. Some have said that the K-5 is what its replacement should have been like.

I have an E300 kicking around it's kind of funky without the big prism housing

Since they cannot fix the AF problem, they cannot sell another low end body. So the K-5 will be the entry level, the 645d is the high end, and something else is in between ;-)

And of course, the price levels will make the brand truly for the elite. The moneyed elite :-D.

Ok... the K-5 price is reportedly dropping, and there's a rumored full frame body again....
