filters will definitely increase the possibilility of lens flare.. i dont use one but its up to the individual.. with film they did something other than just protection with digital they are a negative except for protection..

take your pick..

Lens Hood Shape

I reverse my hood when using it indoors and storing it, and the cutouts allow me to get to the zoom ring on the lens when the hood is on the lens, but reversed.

Just a quick note regarding the detachable lens hoods as supplied with the DA and DFA series lenses - you can fit them onto the lens backwards for easier storage.
