G3 is the spare/backup camera for my wife only on tours.
I use the G3 only on days I don't want to bring a larger camera cause photography is an afterthought for the day. (eg. shopping)
I use it in the same way, except I've an e-p1 with the same lens. I give it to my gf and she loves using it. It used to be my only camera after selling Nikon d70. I learned to enjoy primes thanks to it.

After getting K5, I use it a lot less often, but I do take it out and when I find that K5 will get in the way.

The quality is great, especially jpegs straight out of camera. But it falls short at high ISO and DR.

I would say try before you buy because I could not work with the limited manual focus assist,. I suppose I am to used to SLR and DSLR's.

anyone here have this set-up in their bag - Pentax DSLR and 4/3 camera ? how do you use it and for what ?
I use small bags, so I only carry one camera at a time. I got an EPL2 recently, so I took it as my main camera on vacation and if I would leave again, I would take the same setup. The DSLRs stayed at home.

My K-5 shares my camera bag with a MZ-S, occasionally my S90 comes along too. No m4/3s though.

I've owned two 4/3 cameras. an E1 and an E330 with cheap (14-42) and expensive (14-54) standard zooms. Neither could take a sharp picture to save its life. I have a Nikon P7000 and, like many writers here, use it a lot more than the DSLR. A big selling point for me was the viewfinder - ie it has one! I think the addon VFs we're seeing from various manufacturers are hideous; no matter how well they work they look like a bodge or, at best, an afterthought.

I usually carry my Sony NEX-3 with the 16mm pancake lens for taking landscape and discrete street shots. The K5 would usually have either a 35mm or 50mm prime attached. When I'm in the mood to carry one camera, I throw my Tamron 17-50 f2.8 on my K5 and roam about.

Tried an EPL-1 and EPL-2 if I recall the model names correctly.

They were terrible. Noisy, phantom red spots in sunset pictures, terrible autofocus. The better Panasonic point and shoot from a few years back (the 28-300mm one) took better pictures in my opinion.

I find AF to be lacking in general, so I only use MF and that works very nicely with the Pen cameras. I also find the EPL2 to be very capable in low light when used with a fast lens. The sensor is noisier than an APS sensor, but the difference is smaller than the difference between an APS sensor and a FF one.

Here are some sample shots taken in low light:

I have a E-PL1 Pen. I use it for events that warrant more than a p&s, but don't want to carry a DSLR and perhaps two lenses. Only two lenses for it thus far; the 14-42mm kit lens and the 40-150mm. My only real complaint (other than lens flare with the 14-42 and no hood to reduce it) is that with the optional viewfinder battery life seems a fair bit less than using the LCD only. So I'll usually have a p&s too.

I've got a G3 to go along with my K-5 and K20D. The G3 tends to go places where I can't take the K-5 and several lenses. Sure, the IQ isn't quite as good, but it definitely works in a pinch. I still take the DSLRs on long trips or to events or anywhere I might need something more professional on hand (still about 80% of the things I do).

thank you guys for the input. really appreciate it. as you know i already have a pentax mx, k100d and k10d but after some thinking, i gave in and decided to get a brand new Olympus e-PL1. we already have an e-PL1 in the house as i gave one to my daughter last christmas. but after playing with it i got hooked and decided maybe i need one, too. i am the official photographer in the family (friends, relatives and all), so having one to carry lightly instead of my K100D or K10D is a nice option. i just received the camera and will let you all know how it goes. again THANKS A LOT...
