hi all,

i bought my daughter an Olympus Pen 4/3 camera for christmas and somehow i am intrigued when i first saw and tried it. in the sense that it's small and the picture quality is comparable to DSLR plus you can also get some nice lenses. i have a Pentax K100D and K10D but would like to know if it's an advantage to carry a 4/3 camera in my bag. anyone here have this set-up in their bag - Pentax DSLR and 4/3 camera ? how do you use it and for what ? thanks for the inputs and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.

I have a K-5 and a GF2. The GF2 with the Panasonic 20mm is extremely small and takes fantastic pictures. I usually let my girlfriend handle the GF2 while I use my K-5. Other times, I'll take one or the other.

I have a G3 and a K5.
G3 is the spare/backup camera for my wife only on tours.
I use the G3 only on days I don't want to bring a larger camera cause photography is an afterthought for the day. (eg. shopping)

I use the E-p3 for family snap shots. It is compact and has very fast focus.

So in my bag I have e-p3 for snap shots and a K5 or Mz-s for when I want to have fun

The Pen camera's are a good second camera to have on the side. Even as a main camera I would be happy with a E-p3. .

Don't have one but have been thinking about buying a used one to use my old Canon FD and FL lens.

Hi Jake, It is not very easy to manual focus. I used my Leica R lenses via and adapter. Was not that keen on the whole expirience.

K-5 & a GF2; I've found that over the holidays, I haven't carried anything around except for the GF2 & 14mm...

Hi Vic,
no, I do not use anything without ViewFinder, but I always have KX with Sigma 17-70 2.8 Macro with spare 4x AA Lithium in my back pack ,all the other times try to use K7 with all various possible attachments....

No. I use either K200D or GX20 DSLRS. I am uncomfortable with cameras without eye-level viewfinders as I find holding the camera away from me to look at the LCD screen a little tiring. I would like to use a smaller camera with a viewfinder and a fast lens but not with a DSLR in the same bag.

The Pen has a focus assist as in you can magnify and then check focus. On youtube there are a few clips showing how it works. I believe the assist in the panasonic m4/3 is much better, but I have not tried it.

ps. The adapters are very cheap (ebay)

The Panasonic GF (and other models, I believe) have zoomed in view on LCD manual focus feature. Works also with their AF lenses if you enable the "quick shift"-like feature (AF then fine-tune with MF).

Was hoping that some models would have a focus conformation light in the viewfinder like Pentax.For me trying to focus in live view would be too slow and troublesome.To use the LCD I would have to put on my glasses and am much too shaky to take pictures with a camera hand held out front.
Am happy that my eyes are as good as they are for my age as I don't need glasses for anything but reading and small stuff up close.Have tried bifocals about three times but couldn't get use to them.

Yes they do have a zoom in window.
On my G3, its can be a window in window assist (at 3x magnification) or a x3, x8, x10 magnification on the main window.
I like the window on window method as its easier to use while maintaining composition on the main window.

There is a niffy 3rd method, that is sort of like the 'peaking' method on the NEX, but its more of a 'side effect' of the LCD than an implemented feature.
The outline of most contrast 'shimmers' at the peak of contrast and if the user looks out for that, its an indication of focus (ie. peak contrast).
