Originally posted by Clinton Many believe that Pentax cannot simultaneously support the Q mount, the K mount, the 645 D mount, and another mount. Many will believe that would signal the end of the K mount. Certainly, many will not be interested in buying the same lens twice for two different systems. I say, if you want support for something else and the K mount, vote for both.
Why would people believe this? The A-mount is not going away anytime soon because of the E-mount. Sony has been very surprised by demand for the NEX system it appears they will change their product line up next year to increase support (meet demand) for this line.
The K-mount has support from Sigma (Sigma makes more K-mount lenses than Pentax does). It is not possible for Pentax to be a viable company if it discontinues the K-mount anytime in the near future. I personally think the Q will be a short lived product, so I don't see support for the Q-mount as an issue. Even if it stick around it will only have a couple of lens options and not be a drain on Pentax R&D.
EVIL is going to be a very big percentage of the market. It is already taking a big percentage of the market in Japan and other Asian countries. EVIL can meet the needs of 80% of the market in a smaller, less expensive package. There will always be certain fields of photography where the OVF is a must have, but those will be higher end professional products.
I don't think Pentax can afford to NOT enter into the large sensor (4/3 and up) mirror-less market. There is too much market share ($$$$) on the table for a Pentax to ignore.
