I'll add my vote for the Konica Minolta NPH00 battery. I've been using one as my backup battery for the last year, and it works fine. And they are much cheaper than the Pentax battery (I thnik I paid ~$20 for mine). I've avoided the non-name batteries just because the thought of trusting my K10D to the unknown bothers me.

Dave, are yours the actual Minolta batteries? Or the generic NP400s that I linked to? The one I bought is NOT a genuine Minolta, it is a replacement.
Mine were/are NOS Konica-Minoltas.... Dave

My Pentax battery came with a nice plastic cap to protect the contacts when it's in the bag. My less expensive Impact batteries didn't.

B&H doesn't have them. I've asked on another forum if a ziploc bag would provide sufficient insulation or perhaps one of the bags in which computer parts are shippled.

The Konica-Minolta batteries have this too.

Minolta NP-400

Today I received the Minolta NP-400 battery from B&H Photo. So far it looks good. With 2 batteries, I now have the power to shoot more than 1000 photos with a single charge...........

Thanks a lot to all of you for helping me out............

Back up, yeah good idea.

I think I'll pick up a spare NP-400 battery too. I was in the middle of taking some test shots trying to learn a few things when I ran out of power. Had to sit there and wait for the dang thing to charge. Yeah, need a back up.

I've got the Hahnel HL-150 battery as my second battery for the K10D. It is less than half the price of a pentax £20 in the UK as opposed to £50. I have no problems with it and lasts a long time.

K10D batteries - Impact experience...

Like others, I bought an Impact (B&H House Brand) battery as a spare for my K10D. After about 9 months of OK performance, it died suddenly and completely. The only good news is that B&H is honoring the 1 year warranty so all I'm out is the cost to ship them the failed unit. While waiting for the replacement, I did some on-line shopping and found that I can get a genuine Pentax D-LI50 for $38.00 plus shipping (from Adorama via Amazon.com - cheaper than going direct to Adorama!), so the price advantage of the Impact isn't so great any more...

With regard to getting original K-M NP-400s... it is my understanding that Lithium Ion batteries have a finite shelf like, even if never used, so even a new/old stock battery has 'lost something'... any battery chemistry experts out there who can confirm or refute this? I have the impression that the shelf like of a rechargeable lithium ion battery is something on the order of 3-4 years. I also think I've heard or seen that a fresh lithium ion battery is good for around 1,000 charge/discharge cycles before it's capacity is seriously reduced...

All I can say is that the Li-Ion batteries I got with my Sony camcorder over 8 years ago are working as well as the day I got them.
