*ist d cf Card problem

Hi

I am new to the forum and am trying to solve a problem with my *ist d .

I have had a trouble free run for almost 4 years and had an "cannot save image" message then a cf card full message come up when there was heaps of room (approx40 of 119 photos on largest jpeg resolution on a 512 fuji cf card).

When i went to review the photos after turning off and on it come up with this card is not formatted. When looking on a card reader all images were deleted.

After reformatting the card you can take between 6 and 20 photos and the same thing happens. Up till that point you can review images and download etc. so its a bit like Russian roulette as one more click means all are deleted.

I have tried two other cf cards i have including one out of my canon G3 and the same thing happens. A third card that works OK in the Canon wont even format on the Pentax.

I am running ver 1.11 on the firmware and havent bothered with 1.12 as it seems to only apply to larger cf cards.

Any clues?

cheers

Glen

If that and the other cards are working and formatting on other cameras and on a PC then I would assume it is the camera itself. Could it be you have some dirt inside the card reader on the cam?

Otherwise, its a trip to Pentax service, I think.

Yes, I have run out of ideas too.

Tried some compressed air inthe card reader slot but all looks ok and problem is still there.

hopefully Pentax wont find anything too serious

If no one else has ideas or have come across this before then Pentax is the way to go - maybe covered by the warranty too.

Edit: Ooops, istD so warranty period has expired.

Have you looked in the card slot to check for bent contact pins?
