Why does anyone want a mirror less camera?

Want to pretend it is a cell phone? TTL rules.

I don't care about autofocus in video or mirror less buzzwords.

I'm more interested if it can offer me the same performance as K-5 at a cheaper price if I don't need WR of K-5. Plus if there are any other improvements for still imaging. That's all I'm looking for. Also needs to be more like a traditional DSLR rather than a compact system camera as far as shape is concerned.

Oh and there is always, new thing from Pentax.

I still couldn't comprehend how people can handle such tiny cameras like Nex, a mirrorless. It feels like a point-and-shoot and I can't imagine handling it when mounted with a mega zoom (if one is available or existing ones can be adapted). Pentax DSLRs are themselves smaller bodies and I don't understand what a mirrorless camera offers over a DSLR? Will there be any fun in using such a thing...???

The mirroless design does have some advantages (mainly, fewer mechanical components means higher potential shutter performance, less wear, etc. as well as a more compact body, at least in terms of depth), though the camera type is still in its infancy. Think of current mirrorless cameras as the first SLRs (i.e. an Asahiflex)- you had the focusing screen, but no pentaprism to make the image easy to view.

Other perceived advantages are quieter shooting (though the K-5 is mighty quiet!) and I admit that some EVF features are handy. I have an old Lumix G1 and found the EVF helpful in quickly avoiding major white-balance or exposure errors.

I still greatly prefer the optical experience though. I'm sure that I could get used to an EVF.. but I don't wanna & you can't make me!

You do realize that most mirrorless cameras are TTL, right?

I think he meant TTL as in viewing through the lens.

Not only that, but some can be set up to always show DOF preview, or 16:9 preview, or 1:1 preview or B&W preview, or show a live histogram, or any number of things an OVF can't do.

And the image one sees on the rear LCD (or on an EVF) most certainly comes "through the lens".

The high points of mirror-less have already been listed in this thread. Quieter, smaller, lighter, cheaper. Making cameras much smaller than what Pentax already does is not really that important. But what if you can get the FF power of a D3 into a package the size of the K5 because of mirror-less? Eventually that will come, but who will be first?

While we've yet to see the new Pentax, one of the enticing things about the Olympus and the Nex is the capability to mount just about any lens ever made. I hike a lot . The thought of a day on the trails with a small mirrorless body and couple of Limited lenses in my pocket is getting me really interested.

Mirrorless is also a much better arrangement for shooting video.

I used to want a MILC. That was last year. And why? To mount lots of cheap short lenses. And why not? Because too many other folks have MILCs and are hoovering-up all the cheap short lenses, while I've been King Log, waiting. I've missed my window. Ratz.
