Another 285HV Question........

I already have a Vivitar 283, that I can't use on my K10, I am going to buy a 285HV to use on camera, but can I fire them at the same time? And if so what will I need to do that? I would also like the freedom of using the 285 off camera, what would I need, to be wireless? Lots of questions.....

Yes, you can do one of two things: hotshoe to sync port (you need an adapter for your Vivitar flash) and then a sync splitter (looks like a Y cable).
Or get the fleabay triggers (search for "v2s trigger" on fleabay)...

Be careful, even when connected by a wire the old 283 can still damage the circuit in the 10D. I use my old 283 ( and other older flashes) with my K10D by using a Wein Safe Sync adapter. It is a hotshoe adapter that will safefly reduce any trigger voltage, up to 400v, on a flash to a safe 6 volts. Can be used to mount a flash on the camera or used with a cable. It costs about 50-60 dollars but it allows me to use all my old flashes safely.

Didn't we already answer this exact same post in another subforum?

Would you like to click over there and read the answers? Or should I copy-n-paste them into this thread?

As others have said, the 283 can't be connected safely to the Pentax. The 285HV can.

I'd suggest:

Use the 285HV triggered either:
On Camera
Off-Camera Wired (Using any number of a variety of adapters - I use a hotshoe-to-PC cord and a PC-to-hotshoe adapter)
Off-Camera Wireless (either the "eBay triggers" or Pocket Wizards)

And use the 283 triggered with an optical slave of some sort. (i.e. triggered by the 285HV's output)
