k10d to d300?

any of you thinking to make the switch? if so, why? if not, why not? I'm vacillating myself, mostly because I've got such a good collection of Pentax primes and a couple of great Sigmas. Given the status of my failing eyesight, Live View has much to recommend it, though. I'd be most appreciative of your thoughts and recommendations.

If I had the ability to choose between the two I'd get the K10D.

D300 seems to be superior in technology to K10D. But it costs too much. And, if all I've heard is right, K20D will be even better then D300. Heym wait a bit, why being so anxious about system change? :/

I think the rumor that an upcoming Pentax camera will have live view is pretty close to a sure thing. I don't think I'd switch just for that.

If you do switch, please send your K-mount lenses to me.

why spend 3x more for D300 when you can get K10D, bundle of Pentax Ltd's and grip for the same price. Is D300 so much better. I don't think so. And even if it is. I don't need it. So I'd rather stick with Pentax...

If I was planning on shooting action, I would. The D300 is an incredible camera for the cost. 1D-beating AF, fully weather sealed, the best high ISO performance ever seen in a DX format camera and it's capable of 8fps. All for about 1/3 of the cost of a 1D or D3. Live View is good for macro work as well (Either tethered or at 5x or 10x magnification on that gorgeous LCD, it's like having high-magnification finders again).

For what I do? Not likely. I'd need to shoot at ISO 6400 to offset the loss of SR, and 6400 on the D300 is not nearly as clean as 1600 on the K10D. The better low-light AF would be kinda nice though, but it's not all that much better for the sort of work I do (which plays to Pentax's AF strengths, not the weaknesses). And I'd be giving up Pentax's far better DX-format lens lineup for Nikon's better FF lineup. To me the Sony A700 is far more interesting, despite its smaller advantages over the K10D (and lack of full sealing) and not having the high ISO performance of the D300.

I certainly wouldn't mind a DA* 14-24 f2.8 SDM though. Be a great walk-around lens.
