second hand DA35mm-F2.4 sticky dirty

Dear All:

I just got the used pentax DA35mm F2.4 with 193USD from the local HK pentax user.
It was my fault that i didn't get careful examination at MTR station where we trade.
After back to home , it is found that there is sticky dirty on the plastic of len but it does not affect the image of photo.
I made phone call to the original owner and he said he didn't know what happen and it had been covered by UV filter long time.
He was obviously telling lie.
Do anyone know what happen to the lens ?

Try a cotton bud moist (not dripping wet) with alcohol to clean it.

The photo keeps hanging my computer up. Try loading it directly from your computer to the Forum via the "Go Advanced" and then "Manage Attachments" buttons.

Try WD-40 but be careful not to use to much, it's better to rub twice with a little bit of that product than wanting to clean all at once. Do not touch the lens with WD-40, you never know.
If, after that WD-40 treatment, the plastic seems somewhat 'dry', then rub it with some Ballistol (German gun oil), it will look nice again and this product conserves synthetic materials too.
Alcohol is not that wise because the lens elements are cemented wit a product that might solve in alcohol.

Yes! This will dissolve adhesive but use carefully and with caution...

I could be wrong but, now that the picture loads, it looks as if a plate is missing from the lens. That would explain the sticky substance uniformly around the circumference of the front of the lens.

Take a sturdy lint-free cloth, wet it with naptha (lighter fluid) and gently scrub the rubber part of the lens grip. Another solvent that is more environmentally friendly is citrus based solvents, these are excellent degreasers good for removing sticky price tag residue. Again, wet the cloth enough to feel damp but not enough to drip.

Docrwm is onto it. The stickydirty is double-sided adhesive used to hold a (now missing) plate in place. It may be possible to source a replacement plate from Pentax to bring it back to its original appearance. The seller is a chancer!

It's an adhesive (glue) and you have a ring/spacer/plate/something missing...
You got stung...

Looks like the seller was trying to disassemble the lens and destroyed the tape on ring. Maybe you can try to contact Pentax Japan directly for a replacement part which should be very cheap since the HK distributor will just rip you off.
