If you can afford a K-5, I'd go for it.
If not, ditto on a K20D or K200D
Don't own a K20D but have played with it.
I do own 3 K200Ds and they are great. Solid as a beast but suffer in high ISO.
Otherwise, they'll have to pry them from my hands.

Are you up for a DIY repair? Sounds like the on/off switch is failing. Are you willing to replace it yourself.
This is a K200D, but it should be similar.

If it's the switch, it looks dead simple to fix. You might not even have to replace the switch. Cleaning the wiper arm and PCB contact track with contact cleaner on a swab might do the trick.

If it's not the switch, it might be a cold solder joint.

If your camera's conking out anyway, what do you have to lose?

The K5 is the logical upgrade if you can afford it. As for others, my K10D is still going strong after 5 years of hard use and is still gets used often. I'm sure you can find one quite cheap if you're on a tight budget.

Henry's Clearance Outlet in Toronto had K-R bodies for $539.99 CAD and $479.99 for K-X bodies (new, open boxes). I am also shopping for a replacement camera since CCD has died in my old ist DL. Want to sell your old camera for parts if you do buy a new body? Cheers

Thank you all so much for your helpful advice on replacement models.....I have not been following the new models since I've just been so darn happy with my K100D. But I suppose it is time to start during research again on replacing it.

I am going to try and clean the on/off switch, since that does sound like the next logical place to check (I cleaned the battery contacts, but that had no affect). Actually, I've used the camera 4 or 5 times nows since posting this thread, and it has worked PERFECTLY!!! LOL!!

Again, thank you and I'll keep you posted how things progress.

But here's a pretty pic I shot with the mighty K100D a couple years ago....LOVE THIS CAMERA!

K7 or K5. Love my K7. It replaced my K100D which my Son in Law is now using!
