Thank you, all, for your comments.

Cost and video performance were primary; then size (many small hands will be using the device); finally still shot ability.

The K-01 it will be with the 40/2.8 and lowest cost zoom (18-55 AL). We won;t be using it on rainy days so the WR was not required. Added a bag and a class 10 32 GB memory card. The body will be yellow (easier to find when misplaced !).

I will report on the general performance when available.

The D7000 doesn't come with an 18-55mm lens. It comes with the 18-105mm for $1499.95. So are you planning to buy the body only and get the 18-55mm too? I ask because the D7000 body only have been out of stock everywhere due to the Thai floods and are selling for over list price if you can find one. Just something to think about.

I would eliminate the K-5 from the list if what you're looking for is primarily video. Either the K-01 or D7000 would be better suited as they support more commonly used frames per second. The K-01 is definitely the bargain of all three. Still images between each camera should be similar since they all share the same sensor, but this is just a guess.

I took the length of the lens + length of camera body + distance required for minimum focus based on average reading distance from eyes (from information in my graduated glasses brochure).
But you took the focal length of a lens and mix it with other type of lengths that aren't relate and calualte with that another focal length...
Your math just can't be right...

If i've a 50mm lens and move it away 100mm from my eyes it won't become a 150mm lens but you're saying it does so how does that work???

Anyway we are really going off topic now...

Here is the on-line ad I had started with for the Nikon.
NIKON D7000 W/18-55 VR LENS 33752

Each camera was priced with one prime and one zoom so as to be an apple to apple(ish) comparison.
The K-01 video capabilities (rumored), lightness/handling (we will see) and price (confirmed) made it the winner for us.
