Thanks for all the replies. I picked up a used k-x via the Marketplace here, and it arrived today. Unfortunately, I neglected to bring an SD card to work with me, so I can't really test it out, but the control layout is very similar to my old ist-dl, so there should not be much of a learning curve. I like the general "feel" of the camera, and my concerns that it may be a bit too small for my liking proved to be unfounded.
Hopefully, I'll be able to play around with it this weekend and schedule a few short outings to experiment with it.
Thanks again for a great resource, and I'm sure I'll have a few questions to post.
John

I found a used ist DS for $125 with a low shutter count of 2500. It actually has a few more features than the ist DL My DL would be a good parts camera if you want to replace the sensor I could sell you for cheap.

DS is definitely a pretty big step up from the DL. The viewfinder alone makes it so, but a number of other features were cut when they put out the DL.

Might not be a bad idea. PM me with a price and maybe we can deal.
Thanks,
John

Thanks for the update. Yes, please let me know how it works out. I was planning to sell mine for parts, but if the repair is relatively painless, then I might try to repair mine as a backup to the k-x.

Would be interested in hearing how you like your K-X since the K-R or X are my back-up choices. Will contact you on transplant.
