The full frame Pentax?

Anyone know what the time frame is for bringing the full frame Pentax to market?

What sort of MP are they talking about.

Rough cost?

I had seen the FF mentioned here. I had 3 questions. Don't have time to sift through tons of pages to find no one answered my 3 simple questions. So I asked.

If no one know...fine. Just say, no one knows.

Touchy issue. Pentax has given no official statement indicating that they are building a full frame camera. In fact, they have made many statements to the contrary, always suggesting now is not the time, though it may one day be on the table again. All we are left to do is read desperately between the lines and speculate.

Right now it seems like wishful thinking, but Ricoh has made statements of strong interest in pushing the Pentax brand. Full Frame is currently just a hope, but who knows, it may some day come to fruition. Only Pentax knows for sure.

As far as anyone knows there is no such thing as a Pentax Full Frame Camera. Despite rumors to the contrary that generate 2,000 post threads of pure speculation.

Here is what is known:
Pentax has denied any rumors of a full frame camera.
Pentax has not published any time frame for any new cameras, much less a mythical full frame one.
Pentax has never said they are making a full frame camera so no, we have no idea what MP they are not talking about.
And no, we have no idea what the price might be if they were to reverse course and actually make such a thing.

That said, Pentax Forums is supposed to have gotten an interview with Pentax Japan today, so stay tuned, maybe Adam will actually find out something.

In the interview with Kitazawa a couple months ago, he mused that if Pentax were to ever make a full-frame camera, it would be priced within reach of average consumers. Though that's hardly specific, or a firm statement. Especially given that for now, such a camera exists purely in our collective imagination.

Thought Pentax was more committed to the FF. Won't look for one any time soon.

See the thread here about the recent Pentax interview. Pentax reportedly made the same vacuous noise about FF as they did last year about MILC -- and then the Q and K-01 appeared. So maybe that means we'll see FF later this year. And maybe it doesn't. And that's all any of us knows: nothing. End of story, right? Yeah sure.

Next year we'll probably hear more...we'll post the full interview transcript so you can draw your conclusions from that. We've also sent a letter to Pentax, so we're looking forward to hearing how they respond to that as well.

If they really wanted to differentiate themselves, a FF 645 with 60MP+ would be about the only way to do so at this late date.
