So you guys convince me I need more glass for this trip

Just planned a little trip around the British Isles by sea. I really would like to capture some good shots.

Of the lenses I own, I am only thinking seriously about taking the DA-40 and DA-21. I might be able to convince myself to add the 55-200 kit lens but I really don't want to carry it daily.

Other available options would include the kit 18-55 AF and then just the manual A lenses 50-1.4 or 1.7, 35-2.8 macro, 135mm-2.8. I can't see any reason to take any M lenses at all.

I feel pretty sure one or two of you will say, you have to 'buy this to take'. Those comments are welcome but I don't think it is going to happen. I bet I can even guess the which.

So come convince me.

adding something wider would be nice...
If weight is not an issue then why not taking them all?

Bring the A50-1.4 as well as the DA40 & DA21 Ltds for use in lowlight situations and the 35mm Ltd for macro of plantlife (As a Brit, I'd want it in the States)... Other than that I'd be pretty happy with that 4 lens line-up...

Just stick with the DA40mm and leave the rest at home!

I'd bring wide and fast, especially if your coming to Scotland where it rains all the time.

What camera are you using I have just finished a trip to Scotland with a K5 18-135 DA 40. I used the Da 40 for inside shots and the 18-135 for outside inclement weather shots.

I think you'll regret not taking an FA* 600/4 on this trip.

Nice replies all of you.

Weight is always an issue and the safe on the boat is of limited size. I am not going to carry all of them all of the time.

The 1.4 even as a MF is now under consideration. If I owned an AF it would be on the list for sure.

Of course I am going to Scotland. My gene pool is Scottish Irish mix.

Ron's comment surprises me just a bit. I love the 40 but it can be hard to capture the full view when close to some objects.

Ah! The camera, just a k2000. If I were going to drop some bucks it might be for a new body.

Whatever you take, it needs to be WR at the minimum.
My kit would be the15 ltd, only exception to wr requirement, 16-50, 60-250 and K5 with D-BG4.

My minimal travel kit, for small villages to wide-open spaces, consists of Tamron 10-24, DA18-250, FA50/1.4, and Raynox DCR-250, padded-out with fast f/2 manual primes at 24-28-85mm. YMMV.

EDIT: This is my 9000th post! I'm on a roll! And not a 220 roll. Nor a cabbage roll.

Why? It's all about the way we see things and / or the challenges that we impose on ourselves.

+1

- -

I've been doing a lot of traveling lately and the kit I have come to prefer so far is the 15 ltd, 31 ltd, 16-50 and 50-135 w/ K-5 and grip. When I want to go for a quick and light walk I use the 31 ltd as a walk-around and the 15 ltd for the wide stuff (it fits nicely in a jacket pocket since it's so small). If I'll be going out for longer or something, I bring my backpack and tote the 16-50 and 50-135 around (but I ditch the 16-50 if I know the weather will be good).

I'm currently contemplating getting a TC or the 60-250, but for weight the TC is my first choice with the 50-135. The 60-250 would have to replace the 50-135 but it's much heavier, larger and not as good for low light so I'm on the fence there.

So, from what you said you have available, I'd definitely bring the 55-200 but only carry it when you think you'll use it. I'd probably also consider bringing the 50 f/1.4 Having the 35 macro available would be nice, but if weight is an issue and you don't use it often then I don't think it's worth bringing.

Hope you have fun!

Whichever lens will cut through the fog and mist of the North Sea.
