I'm pretty sure every single IR remote works with every camera that has the IR pickup

For $1.85, it's a cheap risk, if it doesn't work you're not out much.

I checked the online user guide for the ist DS at Digital Cameras by PENTAX - Waterproof Digital Camera - Digital SLR. It uses the same remote control (Remote F) that the K10D, K-5, etc. all use.

So, that remote will work with your camera.

As others have pointed out, you're not going to lose any sleep over $1.85. I'd buy several, in case I lost one.

Received it and It works great! Hard to believe it was $1.85 including shipping from China.

Glad to hear it. It's quite a coincidence, my remote was the victim of an unfortunate mishap last week. So it looks like I might give yours a try. By the way does the "remote from china" only trip the shutter or does it have a half-press position for auto-focus and/or auto-exposure? Thanks

It doesn't seem to have a 1/2 push but it does focus than shoot when fully depressed when in auto mode. Have you tried playing with any tv/dvr infrared remotes to see if they happen to trigger the camera?

No I haven't tried any tv remotes, I'm sure they use a different communication protocol. I already ordered the same one you purchased. I didn't use my old remote very much, just the occasional quick family picture, but they're nice to have around when needed. Thanks for the info.

$1.85 for a working IR remote is a steal!

I bought an OEM Pentax IR remote over a year ago and I don't remember how much I paid, but I'm pretty sure it was well over $1.85. I think I should get in on this eBay remote deal just to have an extra spare remote.

No, it probably does not have a 1/2 push for AF and neither does the OEM Pentax IR remote. However, in the menu settings, it's possible to set AF when using a remote.

My Sony DVD player remote works on K-x, as does an old Sony receiver remote. Had to press a few buttons to find the right one, but it does the trick.
