Menu Screen on K10D

Help.. this is frustrating, this camera is 2 months.

When I push the menu button, the menu screen comes on and then turns its self off, without giving me a chance to do anything. Today is the first time this has happened.

Has this happen to anyone else.

Or is it that I have a lemon as I have had the main board changed, as the hotshoe wouldn't fire external flashes.

IF SO THEN MAYBE ITS NOW TIME TO CHANGE BRANDS......I get enough crap from Canon users at race tracks about Pentax poor build.

Make sure you are not accidentally hitting the menu button twice. Try pushing the menu button about 20 times in a row to see if there is an intermittent switch. Sometimes cycling it a bunch of times will clean the contact.

Turn off the battery grip. Your little finger is hitting the shutter release on the grip. Very annoying. I know. Boy, do I know. I did it again today ...

The LCD goes out whenever one (or more) buttons is depressed--any of several buttons. Start with removing the battery grip and checking to see that all the buttons depress and return to the 'up' position. It will also go out if the lens is not properly mounted; remove and/or remount. Low batteries will also cause a failure-recharge. Try the menu button again and if the camera responds correctly, perform a system reset.

Are you using an after market lens? My 100D did the same thing until I switched to a Tamron lens and the problem was fixed. I posted this problem months ago. Good luck.

Well the camera came back, with they couldn't find a problem. Hmmm
I was out over the weekend at A1GP, and guess what it happened again.

One of the other photographers a Nikon user, had me change lenses from Sigma EX 28-70 f2.8 to 10-20 EX DC and 50-500 EX APO and the problem went away. He mentioned that Sigma has to re-chip the lens to suit the K10D without cost. I have had the 50-500 longer than the 28-70.

Has anyone heard about this, I have had my Sigma flash unit re-chipped.

Russell, I recall seeing numerous posts in the lens forum about Sigma lens re-chipping. Seems to be a fairly common procedure needed by many Sigma-using Pentaxians.
